The Spanish economy is feeling the hit of the pandemic, many shops, bars and restaurants are forced to close with no income, thus increasing the robberies occurring in our neighbourhoods.

In this brief article we would like to inform you of a few tips to for securing your property in Spain:

1. Lock Your Doors and close your windows.

As normal as It may sound, make sure to lock your doors when you leave your home, whether it being in the morning as you go to work or when you take your dog out for a walk or nip to the shops.

You should also always close and lock you patio windows and other easy accessible windows before leaving your house.

If you are have just bought the house, change the locks as soon as you have signed the deeds. You can never be sure enough the seller has been given all the keys. Changing the locks should give you piece of mind about the safety of your home, as well as increasing its security.

2. Hide Your Valuables.

Don’t leave your valuables on view. This way if the burglars can´t see anything to steal they won´t try, it makes it less desirable.

3. Be Mindful Of Your Surroundings.

We have seen many cases in the last years of people being mugged at supermarket parkings, where the burglars take advantage of a distraction to steal your handbag from your car and then get your home address from there. If alone and you are approached by strangers be mindful of your surroundings.

4. Get Home Insurance.

If you are a home or business owner, or your rent your home or you are a tenant, make sure to get correct home insurance cover. The market has many options that will cover your needs. You are better going to an insurance broker who can personalise your insurance.
